How country preference matching works
Country selection helps prioritize where your next random match comes from. It improves the search order, but it does not guarantee a person’s location.
What happens when you choose a country?
- Your preference is saved in local browser storage.
- When you search, OmegleHot first looks for an available participant associated with that country.
- If a compatible participant is not available after a short wait, the search can widen to the global pool.
Why is there a global fallback?
A strict location filter can leave people waiting indefinitely when a country has few active participants. Global fallback balances preference with the ability to find a conversation. Selecting “All countries” uses the global pool from the beginning.
How is a participant’s country estimated?
The current service can use country information supplied by hosting infrastructure or a region detected from browser locale. These signals can be missing or inaccurate—for example, when someone uses a VPN, travels, changes locale settings, or connects through certain networks.
What country matching does not do
- It does not verify nationality, citizenship, residence, or current physical location.
- It does not guarantee that the other person selected the same country.
- It does not use the opening identity selection as a match criterion.
- It does not replace normal privacy precautions with strangers.
